How it Works!

Step 1: Purchase your ticket online and fill in the details on the form for what section and difficulty you would like to be entered in at.

Step 2: You will be added into a whatsapp group with more details about the competition and a chance too ask any questions to the organisers. You will be allocated a time slot for the competition between 5-11pm, you are requested too attend the time slot you are given.

Step 3: You take part in the compeitition at your allocated time slot on Friday!

Step 4: At the end of each section, there will be a short cermony handing out appreciation gifts too attendees and handing out prizes to the winners of the section by our judges.

Categories
1. Memorisation

2. Tajweed

Each category will be divided into three levels, with Level 4 being the easiest and Level 1 the most difficult.

Please ensure you select the correct level for the category you are entering, as changes to level or category are not permitted once a contestant has registered.

Memorisation

The memorisation category will test contestants’ ability to continue from the verses read out by the judges, focusing on their memory and articulation with correct Tajweed.

Points will be awarded for accurately remembering the order of verses and using proper Tajweed and pronunciation. Points will be deducted for forgetting verses, needing the judge to intercede, and incorrect pronunciation.

Contestants can be tested on any Surah and Ayat from the Juz corresponding to their level.

The judge will start an Ayat, and the contestant must continue from there until the end of the Surah or until the judge intercedes to ask the next question.

Each contestant will recite for approximately 4-5 minutes.

(8-16 years old)

– Level 4: Last 10 Surahs of the 30th Juz

– Level 3: Last half of the 30th Juz

– Level 2: One full Juz of the contestant’s choice

– Level 1:*Five Juz of the contestant’s choice (e.g., Juz 1-5, 23-28)

17 + Category
Level 3: – Half of 30th Juz
Level 2: – 2 Juz of contestant choice.
Level 1: – 5 Juz of contestant choice

Tajweed

The Tajweed category will assess contestants’ ability to recite Quranic verses with correct Tajweed and appropriate melody/tone.

Contestants will be evaluated on their proficiency in applying Tajweed rules during their recitation.

Each contestant will recite for a maximum of 4 minutes.

Contestants will be allowed to recite from the Quran from wherever they wish.

All Age Groups

– Level 3(Beginner):Focus on clear pronunciation of letters and adherence to basic Tajweed rules.

– Level 2(Intermediate): Demonstrates understanding and application of major Tajweed rules, with questions on these rules.

– Level 1(Advanced) Addresses more complex Tajweed rules, ensuring the contestant can accurately articulate Quranic verses.

Panel of Judges

Judges include Shayokh and teachers at Mena Centre, who are experienced hafiz and who have been teaching quran to students for many years.

It also includes Shaykh Sohaib, Dr Sohaib Saeed is the founder and director of the Ibn ‘Ashur Centre for Quranic Studies. After a BA and MSc in philosophy (Edinburgh), he graduated from Al-Azhar (Faculty of Theology, Cairo) in Tafsīr and Quranic Sciences. He then completed his PhD at SOAS, University of London, under the supervision of the renowned Quran translator M.A.S. Abdel Haleem.

As well as academic articles, Shaykh Sohaib has published acclaimed translations of classical works in the field and is working on major projects in Quran translation and commentary. He also has a strong track record in education and research. Since 2016, he has been the senior tafsīr consultant for Bayyinah Institute. In 2021, he took on a key responsibility overseeing content and quality at the major website Quran.com and its sister site QuranReflect.

His teaching experience includes the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as community institutions such as Al-Salam Institute, iSyllabus, the Islamic Seminary of America, Whitethread Institute, Respect Graduate School, and Roots Academy.
