An intensive weekend advanced study on re-examing the Prophet’sﷺ biography in light of leadership development and strategic thought and decision making for academics, ulema, thinkers and policy makers and anyone interested in leadership in the Muslim world.

This short intensive course by Muslim scholar Professor Joel Hayward [Cambridge Muslim College]— a well-published historian and strategic studies scholar known for his works of Sirah and other books — weaves together classical Islamic knowledge and methodologies and the source-critical Western historical method to make innovative yet carefully reasoned sense of complex historical issues that are still important in today’s world.

The key topics covered will be:

1. Understanding the Sirah and both its traditional construction and the modern analytical methodology of the discipline of history

2. Understanding the role of human agency in the key events of the Prophet’s ﷺ life

3. Understanding the transformational role of tribal competition and warfare in the establishment of the first Islamic ummah

4. Understanding the Prophet’s ﷺ strategic vision and his principles for what we today call statecraft

5. Developing a firm grasp of the Prophet’s ﷺ societal, military, and diplomatic leadership

6. Gaining a clear Sunnah-based working model for leadership in today’s complex world

About Professor Joel Hayward is Chief Executive of the Cambridge Muslim College. The daily newspaper Al Khaleej called him “a world authority on international conflict and strategy”. The National newspaper called him a “distinguished historian of warfare and military strategy”. Kirkus Reviews said that he “is undeniably one of academia’s most visible Islamic thinkers”.
