Alzheimer’s is a type of disease that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It worsens over time and an individual may lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment.

Islam teaches us the importance of community and being part of a family and one Ummah. Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s or dementia often involves a team of people.

However, many of us are unaware of what Alzheimer’s is and what Shariah mandates for those diagnosed with this disease.

Allah instructs us in the Quran:

“…then ask the people of knowledge, if you do not know.” (Nahl:43)
