Join the book’s editors Leif Stenberg and Philip Wood and contributor Anders Ackfeldt for a live event looking at why Islamic Studies has been relatively insulated from developments in Religious Studies, and how greater engagement might change both disciplines.
What are Islamic Studies? European and North American Approaches to a Contested Field considers an academic area that has been in rapid change since the events of 9/11. Contributors from religious studies, anthropology, history, and political science consider how the field has changed from their perspective.
In particular, the book engages with the works of Shahab Ahmed and Talal Asad and discusses different attitudes towards normative scholarship within the academy.
