Description:

UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, and staff are invited to join us for the Carolina Seminar on Middle East Studies, organized by Dr. Sarah Shields in conjunction with her course, “HIST 276: The Modern Middle East.” Each lecture features a guest expert on contemporary events.

Professor Abu-Rish is a scholar of the modern Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. His research centers around state formation, economic development, and popular mobilizations, particularly in Lebanon and Jordan. His teaching experience includes undergraduate and graduates courses on modern world history; contemporary history; comparative state formation; women, gender, and sexuality in Middle East history; and the Arab uprisings from a historical perspective.
