The Centre of Islamic Studies and Civilisation will continue with the Islamic Studies Research Colloquiums in 2023 via Zoom. We have two upcoming research presentations, followed by discussions after each presentation.

Islamic Studies Colloquium: Exploring Prophetology in Islam and Book Launch

Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia

    • Founder & Director, Darul Qasim

Shaykh Amin Kholwadia Is the Founder and Director of the Darul Qasim Institute in Chicago. He is a scholar and theologian of global repute, with specializations in Islamic Spirituality, Islamic Legal Theory and Islamic Finance from well-established religious institutions in India and Pakistan. He also serves as an Advisor at the University of Chicago, University of Michigan and the Initiative of Islam & Medicine. Shaykh Amin Kholwadia serves as a community leader and has been advising Islamic schools in America for three decades.

Professor Marcia Hermansen

    • Professor & Director of Islamic World Studies, Loyola University Chicago

Marcia Hermansen is Professor in the Theology Department at Loyola University Chicago where she teaches courses in Islamic Studies and the academic study of religion. Dr. Hermansen has published numerous academic articles in the fields of Islamic thought, Sufism, Islam and Muslims in South Asia, Muslims in America, and Women and Gender in Islam. Her authored and co-edited books include Sufism in Western Contexts (2023), Varieties of American Sufism (2020), Muslima Theology: The Voices of Muslim Women Theologians (2013), as well as translations of works of Shah Wali Allah of Delhi including Ḥujjat Allāh al-Bāligha vol. I.

 Dr. Mahsheed Ansari

    • Senior Lecturer, Higher Degrees Research Coordinator, Charles Sturt University

Mahsheed Ansari is a Senior Lecturer and the Higher Degrees Research Coordinator at the Centre for Islamic Studies & Civilisation. She is also a researcher at the Centre for Religion and Ethics and Society (CRES), Charles Sturt University. She teaches a range of courses in Islamic studies and world religions. Her diverse research interests lie in the field of Islamic intellectual history, spirituality, theosophy, and culture, with a particular focus on Islamic legal and virtue ethics, as well as legal theory. Dr. Ansari has published numerous academic articles and book chapters. Her works delve into various aspects of Islamic theosophy and spirituality, as well as exploring topics such as Islam and gender, Muslim women, and Islam in Australia. Her latest publication, “Modern Debates in Prophecy and Prophethood in Islam: Muhammad Iqbal and Said Nursi,” released by Routledge in 2023, presents an important contemporary assessment of this topic. In addition to these, Dr. Ansari actively engages in cultural preservation and historical research. She leads the Muslims in Australia project, which aims to capture and preserve the cultural heritage of Australian Muslims, particularly in the Post WWII era. Currently, she is also writing about the pioneering initiatives of Qazi Ashfaq Ahmad, exploring his contributions towards the institutional development of Islam and Muslims and their lasting impact.
