An interactive guided walk exploring historical and contemporary connections between Scotland’s capital city and the Muslim world.

You are warmly invited to join Professor Hugh Goddard (University of Edinburgh) on a special guided walking tour to celebrate the launch of the Alwaleed Centre’s online project ‘Edinburgh and the World of Islam’: https://www.alwaleed.ed.ac.uk/outreach-and-projects/walking-tour

Please come along and join us for a 2 hour interactive walk led by Professor Goddard exploring the historical and contemporary connections between Scotland’s capital city and the Muslim world.

We are offering two tours on different dates. Please only select one date to give more people the opportunity to take part. Places are very limited so we suggested booking your place early..

Dates:

Wednesday 26th October from 11:00 -13:00 OR Wednesday 9th November from 11:00 -13:00.

The walk will begin and end at the Alwaleed Centre, 16 George Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9LD.

Meet Your Tour Guide: Professor Hugh Goddard

Professor Hugh Goddard is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Alwaleed Centre with research expertise on Christian-Muslim relations, and was the Founder-Director of the Alwaleed Centre from 2009 – 2017.

He was an undergraduate in Oxford, where he studied Islamic History under Albert Hourani, and then took his doctorate from the Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations in Birmingham, where his supervisor was David Kerr. He has worked and studied in the Middle East, in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt, and has also undertaken a number of research visits to other regions of the Islamic World, including Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia and Central Asia.

Prior to moving to Edinburgh he worked in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies in the University of Nottingham, where he served as Professor of Christian-Muslim Relations from 2004.
