SOAS ISoc is proud to present “Finding Light In Darkness” with Asmaa Hussein, founder of Ruqayya’s Bookshelf.

The event will begin with a talk led by Asmaa Hussein on her experience of working through times of hardship in her life, including using writing as an outlet. The talk will be followed by an open question and answer session that audience members may participate in.

Asmaa Hussein is an author most well known for international best-sellers A Temporary Gift (2016) and A Place of Refuge (2020). She is the owner of Ruqayya’s Bookshelf, a publishing company founded in 2015 that is dedicated to representing authentically Muslim stories, with a focus on children’s books.

The event will be taking place in the Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre (BGLT) at SOAS, University of London. Doors will open at 13:30, the event is expected to begin promptly at 14:00.

This event is open to the public. When deciding on whether to bring children to this event, please bear in mind that the author will be discussing mature themes throughout the talk.
