Description:

Getting to Know American Muslims and Their Faith, one of ING’s core presentations, provides an introduction to Islam as Muslims actually believe in and practice it in all its diversity today.

After introducing some of the basic terminology that Muslims use, it presents the demographics of Muslims in the world and in the U.S., outlines Muslim traditions and practices, and gives an overview of Muslim history in this country, including notable American Muslims today.

This presentation then addresses common misconceptions relating to extremism and women’s rights and discusses Muslims’ views on pluralism and on Islam’s relationship to other faiths, including Judaism and Christianity.

There will be ample time for Q & A and discussion with the speaker, Dr. Zachary Markwith.
