Description:
What Islam teaches about being ‘green’ and how to make more sustainable and conscious choices in everyday life:

The importance of sustainability and looking after the environment as a Muslim cannot be overstated. From a physical perspective, we’ve been instructed to be caretakers on Earth, preserve all living things, and avoid waste. And from a human perspective, we’ve been taught to exercise justice in all areas, including in the division of resources and the alleviation of suffering where possible.

Fatima will be exploring the roots of the Islamic duty to be concerned with the environment, and the guidance we’ve been given on how to live sustainably. She will also provide practical advice on how to be more sustainable as a community and as individuals.

Fatima has been an Islamic Relief climate campaigner for 2 years and has been involved with the creation of climate campaigns such as the meat-free fortnight during Ramadan this year. She has taken part in interfaith vigils that have been really insightful in showing just how important faith is when trying to tackle the climate crisis. Fatima has been been a vegan since 2016 and has been trying different ways to reduce her overall consumer consumption.

This seminar is open to everyone – particularly those interested in how to become more sustainable and consume more consciously, and how the religion of Islam informs these lifestyle choices.
