Journey Through the Afterlife – Part 2

Allah repeatedly in the Qur’an advises us to work in this world with our ultimate goal being the pleasure of Allah in this world and the Hereafter. As He says in Surah Al-Israa, “But he who desires the Hereafter and strives for it in the manner he should and is a true believer, his striving will come to fruition.” (Q 17:19). With this objective in mind, this course seeks to immerse us in the ways in which we can internalize this Ukhrawi Reality (Afterlife Realty) as our frame of reference.

This course builds upon the “Journey through the Afterlife” lessons offered by Shaykh Yasir Fahmy this past Ramadan, though to enroll it is not required that students attended those. Through selected readings, we will deepen our understanding of the stages of the next life to gain a better perspective of life on this earth. In the footsteps of our Beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) and of the giants of our Islamic scholarly tradition, we will inshAllah taste the Hereafter and be reminded of our true purpose.

“And as compared with the life of the Hereafter, the life of this world is nothing but a brief passing enjoyment.” Surah Al-Ra’ad (Q 13:26)

Ibn Umar (RA) said the Messenger of Allah (SAW) took me by the shoulder and said, “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler/wayfarer.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6416)

“What is the example of this worldly life in comparison to the Hereafter other than one of you dipping his finger in the sea? Let him see what he brings forth.” (Sahih Muslim 2858)

“This worldly life is no more than play and amusement, but far better is the ˹eternal˺ Home of the Hereafter for those mindful ˹of Allah˺. Will you not then understand?” Surah Al-An’am (Q6:32)
