Speaker Bios:
Imam Siraj Wahhaj
Imam Siraj Wahhaj is a globally recognized Islamic Leader. With over 40 years experience of sharing riveting messages that have sparked the minds and inspired the soul. His message is rooted in hope, faith and the power of redemption. He is the founder of Masjid At-Taqwa in Brooklyn, New York.
In 1991 Imam Siraj offered an invocation (opening prayer) to the United States House of Representatives. He was the first Muslim to do so. In 1988 he led his community in an anti-drug patrol in which they staked out drug houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant in the cold of winter for 40 days and nights, forcing the closure of 15 drug houses. This effort received high praise from the New York City Police Department and the media.
Shk. Yahya Momla
Mufti Yahya Momla is a local imam at Masjid As-Salaam in Burnaby and also practices as a professional mediator. He has completed his formal Islamic studies in India, specializing in advanced Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and was the former imam of Masjid ut Taqwa and Madinah Masjid in Toronto. Mufti Yahya now gives lectures in different Masjids, MSAs, and institutions, and helps individuals, couples, families, and colleagues manage conflict through his consulting and mediation services.
Taha Ghayyur
Taha Ghayyur is a human rights advocate, a personal growth and leadership trainer, and a writer, based in Toronto, Canada. Driven by a spirit of service and desire to elevate people’s leadership potential, Taha has been leading groundbreaking and impactful community initiatives for over 20 years across North America. His community involvement includes:
- Vice President, Sound Vision Foundation, a pioneering Muslim media & professional development training institution
- Executive Director, Justice for All Canada, a human rights advocacy organization fighting to end genocides impacting minorities around the world
