Description:

Dr. Jihad Saafir’s course, Muslim Adolescent Identity Development, will equip students with an understanding of adolescent development and how identities, in particular religious identities, are adopted, supported, and neglected. Furthermore, students will explore the various environmental factors that impact Muslim adolescent identity development. A recurring theme throughout this course is that the survival of one’s religious identity hinges on socializing agents (community members, peers, Muslim parents, Muslim teachers, etc.) that are well equipped to construct environments that foster healthy transitions into adulthood. As a timely service to our community, Dr. Saafir will in particular address the influence of Islamophobia saturating the media surrounding this political moment.

This module will be taught in two lectures, on November 4, 2023 and December 2, 2023. Between lectures, students are invited to complete Dr. Saafir’s full Bayan Institute online course:

Via registration, tuition is $30 per lecture or $50 for both. Unregistered entry per lecture is available for $35 at the door. Students are eligible for 50% off admission fee.
