Description:
A panel discussion with the scholars of Muslim American Hyphenations: Cultural Production and Hybridity in the Twenty-First Century (2021).

About this event

You are invited to a virtual panel discussion featuring the scholars of Muslim American Hyphenations: Cultural Production and Hybridity in the Twenty-First Century. This panel will examine the centrality of cultural production to the identity, identificatory practices, and social critique of transnational Muslim writers and artists. Panelists will discuss media, novels, graphic fiction, poetry, and visual art to critique how culture becomes a vehicle for complex engagements with raced, gendered, and classed power dynamics within and beyond the temporal and geographical boundaries of the nation.

All are welcome to attend this interdisciplinary panel, which is co-sponsored by the Department of English, Center for Peacemaking, and the Office of Engagement and Inclusion at Marquette University, and the Center for Twenty-First Century Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
