The field of ʿUlūm al-Qurʾān refers to groups of principles, rules, and characteristics that coherently relate to some aspect of the Qur’an. There is more to explore in the Qur’an that any human effort can encompass. It is the manifestation of endless marvels that believers are encouraged to ponder, identify, and reflect on in everyday life.

Tafsir means explanation.

It is the science that aids us towards truly understanding the meaning of the Qur’an, based primarily on the explanation of the Prophet (saw) himself and his companions (may Allah be well pleased with all of them). It is an essential subject for every Muslim who wishes to understand the Qur’an. Throughout this course, students will cover the last 10 Surahs of the Qur’an, going over the translation, the causes of revelation, and a detailed explanation of the verses.

Learning outcomes:

• To have a good understanding of how the verses of the Qur’an were revealed.
• Understand how the different themes and stories in the Qur’an come together.
• Gain an appreciation for the eloquence of the Qur’an. Improve focus in Salah through understanding these Surahs.

Personal Growth:

Understanding the power of thought along with cognitive distortions as well as irrational beliefs that we have developed over time. It can be liberating just hearing about these distortions because once you recognize that the reality you assume isn’t necessarily 100% accurate, you can open up to greater possibilities!

Instructor: Mualima Zaitoon Ebrahim

Born and raised in Cape Town, Zaitoon Ebrahim is a motivational speaker, artist, mom of 2 boys, and author. She obtained bachelor’s degree in Islamic Theology at Islamic College of Southern Africa and started her career as an Islamic studies educator at Madrassatul Quds. During this time, she managed youth events with an NGO, facilitating events, camps, and leadership training for adults and youth. Being involved with the youth, she also co-presented on radio Voice of the Cape for one year on the show, ‘For Young Individuals. The key focus of this programme was to educate young individuals about entrepreneurship and personal growth.

In addition to this, she obtained a Diploma in Project Management, a diploma in Didactics, and certification in Life Coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Therapeutic Art Coaching.
