Quran Tafsir in Oadby
The City Retreat and The Oadby Study Circle are delighted to launch our Quran Tafsir class in Oadby with Shaykh Shafi Chowdhury.
Classes will take place between 715pm and 945pm on Friday evenings (Term 1 dates below) at the Freer Centre on Leicester Road, LE18 1HQ. There is ample free parking on site.
Classes will be taught in English, and are suitable for people of all backgrounds; so whether you are an advanced student, or new to Islam and wanting to learn more, please do join us! No Arabic or prior knowledge of the Quran is assumed.
The classes are open to anyone and everyone who wishes to attend, whether you are from Oadby or further afield.
Term 1 dates
The course will run continuously throughout the year, in terms of six sessions.

Term 1 content
Term 1 will cover Surah Fateha (The Opener) and Surah Yusuf (Joseph).

Please note – it is the responsibility of the parents to look after their children if they are accompanying them to the class. We will not have any childcare provision.
Shaykh Shafi Chowdhury
Shaykh Shafi is the Imam, Director and Educator and educator at The City Retreat in Leicester where he leads on the delivery of a range of programmes, including the weekly ReConnect circle. He continues to deliver classes across the country, and is looking forward to delivering a regular Quran Tafsir in English for the Oadby community.
Shaykh Shafi graduated from one of the oldest Islamic seminaries in the UK where he studied Islamic sciences with Isnad (unbroken chains of transmission to classical masters) in the fields of Qur’anic recitations and exegesis, Hadith studies and narration of the six canonical texts, Fiqh, Aqeedah, and Arabic Language.
After graduating he embarked on a year-long tour of South Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe, where he was engaged extensively in dawah work within a wide range of Muslim communities.
Shaykh Shafi is currently a Muslim Chaplain in the Prison Service and consultant to NOMS (National Offender Management Service) on developing programmes for Islamic spiritual learning.
