Description:

Drawing on his 2021 book entitled The Last Muslim Conquest: The Ottoman Empire and Its Wars in Europe, Gábor Ágoston will talk about Ottoman warfare and lawfare in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. His lecture will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Ottoman military, diplomacy, and information gathering vis-à-vis the Ottomans’ main regional rivals, offering new data and perspectives on the gradual shifts in power between the Ottomans and their adversaries and reframing the old debate about the Ottoman decline.
