Nourishment of the Hearts (Qut al-Qulub) is an incredible text which systematically explores the knowledge of hearts and how one can draw close to their Creator by knowing Him, and doing various good works with a sound intention. The author, Abu Talib al-Makki, passed away in 386 AH in Baghdad. He was a hadith scholar, Shafi’i scholar, and specialist in Islamic spirituality.
In this class, our teachers will provide a short summary of the text, and then proceed to teach from various excerpts of the book. In this seminar you will learn:
- What is the book Nourishment of the Hearts about
- Who was the author
- An overview of the text
- Learn about how can one draw closer to their Creator
- About various excerpts from the text which are particularly relevant to today’s time
It has even been said that this text greatly inspired Imam Hamid al-Ghazali to write The Revival of the Religious Sciences. This event will provide a good introduction to this text, which many students have not yet read or studied.
This event is the first in a series of the Great Book Series, which aims to introduce students to great historical works of benefit in a brief period of time so that they can understand what the text is about and some of the major concepts covered therein. This is part of our monthly Critical Issues Seminar series, which covers critical topics, and important questions. many people have today. Each month a new topic is introduced and explored by leading scholars, teachers, and thought leaders.
