Our mind should be a safe place for us to be in, as it is a powerful tool that can either bloom or wither hope. But what if it is not?
As we’re dealing with uncertainties in life, our minds will constantly come up with the worst case scenarios, questioning ourselves with endless what ifs.
What if Allah doesn’t forgive me?
What if there’s no hope left for me in this world?
What if my efforts will not bring any outcome?
Destructive narratives will hinder our growth, as they lead to hopelessness, holding us back from being the best version of ourselves. Meanwhile, healed thoughts will kindle hope and optimism, as they motivate us to become a better person.
Even Allah (s.w.t.) says,
I am just as My slave thinks I am.
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
Having good expectations of Allah will allow us to improve our good deeds, as we become hopeful of the reward that is to come, while being sceptical of Allah’s mercy will discourage us from observing His commands.
What are the practices that we can do to transform our minds, for us to become a better Muslim?
Join Yasmin Mogahed in her upcoming seminar, The Silent Poison: On Healing Our Thoughts, as we break free from the chains of self-doubt, fear, and insecurity through practical tools that will inspire a shift in our perspective to lead a more fulfilling life.
