Description:

How much of the legal system in the UK is influenced by religion? This online session will provide a background into church heritage, church courts, and how they have influenced our legal system. In addition, we will examine the role of religion in divorce proceedings and broader legal matters such as sharia law, hate crime, and more.

Presented by Ruth Peacock, with guests including:

  • Frank Cranmer and David Pocklington – Honorary Research Fellows at the Centre for Law & Religion, Cardiff Law School, editors of the Law and Religion UK website
  • Dr Azim Ahmed – Deputy Director at the Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK, Cardiff University
  • Rabbi Alex Goldberg – barrister, human rights activist and Dean of the College of Chaplains and Coordinating Chaplain at the University of Surrey
